Our community is responsible for the stewardship of our most precious asset: the ocean and the Banana River. Cape Canaveral must continue to be an example of an environmentally conscious community by promoting efforts to reduce storm water run off into the Banana River and unnecessary use of chemicals. There are ways to partner with our neighboring communities to reduce costs as well as the negative impact on our environment. This includes partnerships with Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Merritt Island, NASA, Patrick Air Force Base and others. Don is working to promote the city’s sustainability plan and help residents find even more ways to participate.

To continue to make Cape Canaveral the example of an environmentally conscious community we must:

  • reduce storm water runoff into the banana river,
  • reduce unnecessary use of chemicals,
  • increase the ways to help residents replenish the natural habitat of our Cape,
  • follow sustainability principles include more livable communities, lower costs and a safe, healthy environment,
  • save costs by eliminating waste, enhancing resource and human productivity, and harnessing the economic benefits of innovation,
  • use energy, water and other natural resources efficiently and with care,
  • minimize waste then re-use or recover it through recycling, composting or energy recovery, and, finally, sustainably dispose of what is left.
