We have many needs within the city and our tax dollars need to be spent wisely. There has been considerable growth and development of city facilities, but we also need to ensure that our infrastructure can meet our increasing demands. We need to make sure that all areas of our city are receiving the same amount of attention to improvements in services and amenities such as sidewalks, street improvements, and lighting. I will work to be prudent with our spending and ensuring that necessary spending is done in a wise way.

Someone who is truly fiscally conservative will weigh the consequences of an action against the consequences of not doing so and make the wise choice by understanding the results of that choice. A good fiscal conservative knows that sometimes it’s necessary to incur debt, and to do one’s best to bring that debt to a sustainable level, especially if the city is able to fund part of a project with grants and low interest county funds.

Those who use the phrase “fiscally conservative” rarely do this. Instead, they usually demand a budget cut without really understanding what impact that would have to the city.

Responsible growth and redevelopment are key to Cape Canaveral’s future. I will continue to deal with issues facing our city sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations.
